The brand John Paul Ataker was founded in 2012 in the United States by Numan Ataker. The fashion brand rapidly rose to gain international renown.

THE PERSONS BEHIND THE BRAND

John Paul is the name of Numan Ataker’s son, who himself is one of 10 siblings of an Assyrian family from South Eastern Turkey.

Grandfathers baptized respectively as John and Paul, both became namesakes for the young John Paul Ataker.

And Numan Ataker, young John Paul’s father, long in quest of continuum of already endangered and evaporating human values, chose his son’s name as the epithet of the new fashion brand he was shaping.

STRATEGIC CULTURAL AND AESTHETIC GOALS OF THE BRAND

The brand is driven by the desire of its founder Numan Ataker to reinvigorate the rapidly vanishing ethnic minority cultures’ arts and crafts, their essence, harnessing these in a new, fashion based matrix, thus recuperating thei essence for prosperity, ensuring their cultural survival.

All the various endangered and almost extinct folkloric assets, ethnic minority arts, traditions, lores, folk songs and music, all the cultural treasures of Caucasia, Nothern Anatolia, Mesopotamia, the Middle and “Near” East are considered primary focuses of attention for the brand John Paul Ataker.

All these fragile and perishable intrinsic values and assets are carefully studied, analyzed and categorized so that their quintessential, defining characteristics, their authentic color coding, fabric, texture, form and shape “language” elements or building blocks are isolated so as to finally be incorporated into contemporary fashion design elements and themes of John Paul Ataker creations and collections. Thus having been reintroduced to the cultural atmosphere of our contemporary world.  Laz, Assyrian, and Ezidi ethno-cultures and folkloric elements, motifs etc.  have been the source of inspiration for various John Paul Ataker up till now.
